A major bronze vase of classic form
inlaid in gold, silver, shakudo, shibuichi and copper
Meiji Period
Height, 10”, width, 12.5”

A lone quail naturalistically carved in high relief, stands among cascading millet and kiku; the neck and foot lappets, stylized butterfly motifs intricately designed in gold and shakudo. Signature, Kako, the art name of Suzuki Chokichi, beneath a double mountain trademark.

A similar vase by Chokichi is in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and illustrated in “Flower Bronzes of Japan” by Joe Earle, Pg. 150.
