A pair of graduating 12 panel screens
Maio Motoko
Antique silk, washi, cashew lacquer, gold leaf, gofun and linen

The essence of human duality is expressed in a unified whole. The fascination of duality lies in its flitting occurrences and provocative appearances. One side of the screen expresses the awe-inspiring passions and energy of humanity with brilliant red embroidered silk, painstakingly applied by hand pleat by pleat, crease by crease. This almost mythological energy is contained, the containment represented by layers of old accounting paper sealed with cashew lacquer.
