SIKH AKALIS ON THE MARCH

This finely painted watercolour study depicts a group of five Akalis seen marching from right to left, with their leader seated on a pony. The word Akali translates literally as "timeless". The Akalis were members of a body of Sikh zealots, noted for their ferocity.
