Gilt bronze, semiprecious stones Tibet, early 14th c. 13"1/2 h. (cm.34 h.) |
Gilt bronze representation of crowned Buddha or Aksobhia in hearth touching gesture (bhumisparsa mudra). The serene expression well conveys his attaining enlightement: The crown, flowers above the ears, ribbons falling on the shoulder are studded with stones. The strong body, with large shoulders, elegant hands and feet make this sculpture one of the best related to the style of early 14th century. |
