Papier-machÈ, polychrome-painted, of decagonal form with domed lid, the exterior decorated with figures, animals and mythical beasts.

Kashmir became famous during the 19th century for its finely-painted papier-machÈ work, a technique with origins in Persia; the decorative motifs here combine Hindu, Mughal and Persian influences.
