Bonhams Knightsbridge

A rare Haniwa pottery figure of a standing horse
circa 6th Century, Kofun Period
overall length 28 inches (71 cm)

Modelled in typical reddish brown clay with detailed accoutrements comprising the bridle, bit, saddle and surcingle; each eye cut out to give the abstract and ethereal expression, characteristic of the Tumulus sculpture genre

Together with a copy of the lot's Thermoluminescence Report; and a fitted perspex stand
