Maharana Jawan Singh (reigned 1828-1838) bathes with his sardars in an ornamental pool in the lake palace of Jag Niwas. The pool encloses leaf-shaped parterres planted with shrubs, orange, lemon and jackfruit trees, palms and cypresses. Jawan Singh is seated on the circular platform of the central chhatri, his feet dangling in the water, smoking a hookah held by an attendant standing waist-deep in the water.
