Afghanistan Ca. 2nd century AD crystal; Crystal, Gold, Stone Stupa: 9.5 x 5.6 cm; Casket: 19 x 11.2 cm This superbly carved and wonderfully preserved stupa has been fashioned from stone crystal and fnely beated gold. Contained in the dome is a gold foil inscribed in Kharosthi script. The stupa was found, along with some gold relics in the stone casket shown in the detail image below. |
