Denba Tsering, one of the great kings of Dege, lived from 1678 to 1739. He is here depicted in a mural at Baiya Monastery, the only known represenation of him. In the painting (which is somewhat damaged), he wears voluptuous brocades, is surrounded by courtiers and sheltered by a parasol--a symbol of exalted rank in Tibet. In addition to being a great patron of Dege monasteries, he also commissioned the construction of the Dege Printing House. |
