Fig. 9: Carvings such as this stone relief depicting persons, flora, and fauna in rocky settings were familiar to Licchavi carpenters who
probably carved similar compositions at home as they did in the Jokhang. This relief originated in the Kathmandu Darbar Square and
may have been part of the decoration of Narendradeva’s palace Kailāsakuta which many scholars believe to have stood here.
