Avalokitesvara (Sanscrit) / Janraiseg (Mongolian)
Mongolian
7.5 x 6 cm
Painted on Cloth
Mid-19th To Early 20th Century

This “padmapani” or “lotus holding” form of Avalokitesvara is similar in appearance to White Tara. But Avalokitesvara has only two eyes, has one hand behind his knee holding his weight as he reclines in “royal ease” position. Unlike Green Tara he has no lotus upon which to rest his right foot.
