Message From the Masses to the Masses: An Artist in Mao's China is now Available on DVD for institutional purchase from the David M. Kennedy Center at Brigham Young University and Combat Films and Research. Produced by Eric Hyer, Professor of Chinese Politics at Brigham Young University, who traveled extensively in China interviewing artists with Director Dodge Billingsley who also has extensive experience filming in China, Masses, chronicles the life of Jin Zhilin, a Chinese artist and professor at China Central Academy of Fine Art whose life and career were altered dramatically by the political currents that shaped post 1949 China. The film is in English and Chinese with English subtitles. In addition, a Teacher's Guide can be downloaded from the Beyond the Border website.(http://beyondtheborder.org/masses.php). Special features include extended interviews with Jin Zhilin and his students Song Ruxin and Feng Shanyun, both peasant artists from northern Shaanxi.
