Thomas Murray studied at UC Berkeley with a double major in Psychology and Anthropology, with Pre-Medicine. For 28 years he has supported his independent research through the sale of tribal art and textiles with a primary focus on Indonesia; he has placed objects in more that 30 museums on four continents. A HALI contributing editor for the last 15 years, he serves as the "in-house" expert on all ethnographic textiles with more than 45 publications and has lectured widely, most recently giving the paper "Ottoman Influences on Islamic Calligraphic Batik from Indonesia" at the recent Istanbul ICOC carpet conference. He also features early Indian textiles and sculpture, and tribal works of art from mainland cultures of Asia.
