Re: Chinese Salver - Red Hand script six character base mark |
Posted By: Bill H Posted Date: Feb 28, 2015 (01:28 AM) |
Message This isn't a very traditional kind of pattern and has the overall look about it of transfer-decorated 20th century utilitarian tableware. The base mark has a Mandarin reading of "Yangcheng Wuchen Nian Zhi" (羊城戊辰年製), translatable as "Made in Guangzhou during the Wuchen Year", which Chinese cyclical date coincides with 1928 and 1988 in the context of this kind of decoration. Yangcheng is a nickname for Guangzhou, the former "Canton" in Guangdong Province. Best regards, Bill H. Post a Response |
