Identifying type of painting

I have a pair of small Chinese paintings that are oil paintings on cloth. I think they are wonderful and the quality is quite nice. I believe they are from the early to mid 1800's. One is a boy and the other a girl in what appears to be period clothing from a specific village. They measure 9" tall by 6" wide each. The cloth is very fine but I do not think it is silk. I would be interested in anything anyone knows about these types of work. I thank you in advance for any information like age and possible location of the work.
