Message Tureen is made of porcelain and is vitrified, not porous. Speckles and dirt do not indicate anything about "old." Speckles are from impurities, common in items mass-made for export that are not top quality. Dirt can be added by anyone at any time. Your item's 'Rose Canton' type pattern made in some variations, in pieces made in tableware sets of 100+ pieces for export to West. They were most popular late 19th century into 1920s, but are being made again now. Many such do not have individual factory or country-origin marks because exported packed in cartons with the identification. So just because does not have mark does not mean made before 1891 when country-origin required to be on items exported to USA. Nonetheless, since decoration is not worst quality, could have been made late 19th century. Could have been 'factory second' considering obvious decoration flaws. Good luck, Cal Post a Response |
