Message 'Made in Japan' came into use circa 1920, I believe, but it is my impression that the use of Buddha images as incense holders, as opposed to burning incense before them in separate containers, is a fairly modern practice (hopefully someone will correct me if this perception is incorrect). Otherwise small votive images of the Buddha have long been sold to devotees for use on home altars and as amuets by shops in the vicinity of principal Buddhist shrines wherever the religion is practiced. Best regards, Bill H. Post a Response |
