Re: Marks on heavy Oriental brass plate |
Posted By: Bill H Posted Date: Oct 21, 2010 (12:25 AM) |
Message The mark, shown upside down, is an apocryphal Ming six-character mark of 'Made during the Xuande reign of the Great Ming Dynasty' (Da Ming Xuan De Nian Zhi). The Xuande era (1426-35) was known for its bronze-casting, and has been honored since with marks like this on all things Chinese in the metal and no few cast in Japan. Best regards, Bill H.
