Song Bowl? |
Posted By: Robert Posted Date: May 06, 2008 (03:48 PM) |
Message John, its hard to tell for sure from the blurry pics but you may have gotten a Korean Koryo (ca. mid-12th century) celadon bowl there. The base should be glazed allover and there should be quartz sand firing spurs on the bottom. The glaze on 12th c pieces should by uncrazed (no crackle) and varies in color, but I seem to recognize yours as a type that have a greyish or pea green. The shape of your bowl is more shallow as oppossed to the type with the deeper well. Be aware that Song China made celedon bowls with a similar shape, also with similar lotus petal carving. Either way it looks like you made a nice catch! Post a Response |
