Thanks partly to this forum a few more pieces of the 'lost' Bowes collection have surfaced, such as the Taizan vase above. The latest object to surface is the biggest object that was once displayed in Bowes' private museum; this Norimono. We now know that it was bought at the Bowes sale in 1901 by Mr Phillip Whyman, a Manchester city Councillor, who then donated it to Manchester Art Gallery - where it is currently included in their 'Eastern Exchanges' exhibition until the end of May 2015.
19th century, unsigned, reputedly the property of Tokugawa Yoshinobu, 15th and last Shogun. Acquired by James Lord Bowes in 1868.
