I would like know more about the style, origin and age of this Japanese porcelain plate.
It was brought back to Holland from Japan in the 1950s by the parents of a friend of mine who lived there for a few years.
The characters on the back on the right read "Hizen Arita". I did some research. Hizen was a province in Japan which seized to exist in 1865.
Japanese porcelain is what is known as Hizen porcelain, produced in the Hizen region (modern day Saga and Nagasaki Prefectures) before the early Edo period (1608-1868).
I can't figure out what the characters on the left are, possible the name of the maker.
I would appreciate any relevant information.
