Re: triptych woodblock kabuki ad? |
Posted By: Guy Posted Date: Mar 19, 2015 (05:34 AM) |
Message It is a kabuki actor's tryptich (yakusha-e) by the ukiyo-e artist Utagawa Kunimasa IV (1848-1920), here signing 'Oju Kochoro hitsu' (painted by Kochoro, by demand) and dated Meiji 23, 5th month (1890). The publisher is Kobayashi Tetsujiro. The actors are depicted with their names in the blue cartouches; the yellow cartouches contain their actor roles. I could decipher the names of Ichikawa Danjuro, Nakamura Jusaburo and Onoe Kikugoro. Could not retrace the actual kabuki play. The values that you mention are correct. Guy. Post a Response |
