Re: Japanes Teapot |
Posted By: Bill H Posted Date: Jul 13, 2014 (05:44 PM) |
Message When flipped a quarter turn to the left, the kanji characters appear to read down as "Yamamoto Sei" (山本製 - Made by/at Yamamoto). According to the 1882 book on Japanese marks and seals by James Lord Bowes, fine eggshell Arita porcelain was being painted at the time in Tokyo by an artist named Yamamoto Shugetsu (characters for 'Shugetsu' were unclear in the book). That's as close as I could get to linking the name Yamamoto with 19th and early 20th century Japanese export wares, into which period your teapot would appear to fit. Best regards, Bill H.
