Yamatoku |

Message Hello, Yes....., this seems to be a very nice Japanese Arita Imari plate. The impressed mark you showed is the mark of Yamatoku (mountain virtue); a kiln from Saga prefecture that started in early Meiji (1868-1912) periode. This mark mostly can be found on transferware of the periode 1910-1920 (I have an example myself) but....your plate seems to be handpainted. This and the tomato red and dark blue makes me think this is an early example of this kiln. A very nice gift...... Best regards (from Holland) Arjan Post a Response |
