#3 - Desperately Seeking Information |
Posted By: James Wilson Posted Date: Jul 09, 2008 (11:43 AM) |
Message If I am not mistaken, I believe the figure depicted in the painting is Quan Yin (also known as Guan Yin and Kwan Yin, the "Goddess of Mercy". Sitting in what is known as the "royal ease" position. While the figure looks to be male, I should mention that Quan Yin is depicted in both male and female forms. The deity is also very often depicted androgynously as neither (or both) male of female in appearance. I hope this helps. James Post a Response |
