Re: Kutani Plate "Mark" on bottom - need help please |

Message Hi Lain, With exceptions (as Always): What we now know as Kutani was only marked with fuku markings before the Meiji period and before Meiji it also wasn't known as Kutani but as Kaga ceramics. So Kutani marked pieces can't be older than Meiji period. If I turn the mark, as shown, 180 degrees you can read on the right side "Kutani". The left characters read "Suda Seika" At best (and I think it is) it's the mark of Suda Seika 1th. This means that your plate can date from around 1920. (as oldest). Regards Arjan Post a Response |
