Posted By: Bill H Thu, Mar 09, 2017 It seems to be Tongzhi under magnification and enhancement of the mark using Photoshop, and on the presumption that the cyclical date that seems to emerge from the inscription actually reads "jia xu" (甲戌 - 1874). |

Posted By: Bill H Wed, Mar 15, 2017 The last year of the Tongzhi reign was 1874, so if my reading of the cyclical date and base-mark are both correct, then the piece may be of the period. However, your photos aren't very-well focused, which increases the margin of possible error in my readings and prevents accurate assessment of potential clues to actual age of the dish itself. So , as I tried to indicate, my opinion on the dish was conditional as to whether or not I was actually reading the unfocused images correctly. Also, there's always the possibility of something like this being fake until it has been subjected to a hands-on examination by a qualified appraiser. |
