Posted By: alfredolloza Tue, Feb 21, 2017 IP: 90.20.246.49

Hi,
I think it is a Séto work with two actors
The signature is quite difficult for me
Thank you very much if anybody can help me.
Have a good time!

Hi,

This is absolute not Seto ware, ancient Seto ware is in most cases blue on white.
This is more Satsuma-like ware. Signature looks like Tashiro 田代 but I'm not sure about it.
This signature looks like painted later overglaze, so I'm not even sure this is Japanese, might be Chinese fake perhaps.

If you spent some time on the internet looking at Satsuma ware, Seto ware, Hirado ware, Kutani ware, etc. you might get an idea about how this all looks like.
For Satsuma look also at this site: http://www.americanhatpinsociety.com/article/sataume.pdf
And this site shows a lot of Japanese ceramics: http://www.trocadero.com/directory/Antiques/Regional-Art/Asian/Japanese/Porcelain

Good luch and have fun.
Martin.

Hi Martin,
Thank you for your good message!
It is I believe a crackle glaze celadon (perhaps from Seto but no sure).
Another one of the same origin but unsigned.

You are right, I think the signature is not under cover. It could be a later addition.
I like very much Seto porcelain.
This one is perhaps by Jikan.

Dear Martin You says:
"This signature looks like painted later overglaze, so I'm not even sure this is Japanese, might be Chinese fake perhaps."

It is a moriage enamel, with severals cookings, the red is upon, like in the design.Normal no?

it's always difficult to make an appraisal by only pictures. In order to give a well-founded judgment one must see and FEEL (!) the object by daylight. So things like overglaze or underglaze are not always clear visible on pictures.
Regards,
Martin.
