Subject:Tin Glazed Earthenware Bowl Cobalt Bird Decoration
Posted By: Larry McLellan Wed, Feb 15, 2017 IP: 2601:08c4:0000:9d94:

I was given this bowl as a highly prized gift reputed to be from the person's grandmother's estate in Paris, France. My guess is that it's tin glazed earthenware with a cobalt Asian decoration. It measures 6 1/2" x 2". The family settled in France, immigrating from Viet Nam. I am curious as to the age and value. Thank you.

I believe this may be Dutch Delft ware, based on the decoration and glazing characteristics, as well as the dark biscuit showing where the glaze has popped off. See link for another discussion of Delft.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Thank you for your insight. Delftware wasn't on my list! Makes sense.

This is French faience as opposed to Dutch Delft.

Unusual style of decoration and typically robustly potted.

The colour of the earthenware on tin glaze can vary from light to dark.

Hi.
It could also be Rouen Faience, which is similar to Delft, but closer to Paris

Appears to be French c.1840. Thick "lip" usually meant to sit in a depression in a (wooden) frame or holder.
