Subject:Malayan Ghendi
Posted By: Ruud Sun, Feb 27, 2011 IP: 77.251.81.231

I would be very interested to learn more about this Malayan bronze(?) Kendi, especially its age and where it was made.
In the middle the kendi is appr. 18 cm wide and on the bottom appr. 10.5 cm.

I know this is an old post, but nobody responded.
Kendi has been used for thousand years. It also pictured in Candi (temple) Borobudur's relief. Usually made out of terracotta clay or porcelain since their duty is to cool water through evaporation. But those materials does not disinfect bacteria like brass, Silver, Copper and Nickel does. Probably that is the reason they made it out Brass. I saw Buddhist decoration, "swastika". I wonder if the spout could be disassembles for inside cleaning. I am very interested to know since I try to revive their production of Passive Cooling/Refrigerating vessel for Tropical countries. I doing it for my drinking water from air humidity next month charity projects in Indonesia, please let me know.
