Subject:Calligraphy
Posted By: Dan D Tue, Feb 16, 2021 IP: 104.200.132.10

Hi everyone,

It's been a while since I have needed some assistance with some of my pieces - it's a shame to see all of my favourite experts have left but nice to see some others have taken over! I have a few pieces I would like some opinions on as I cannot read Chinese/Japanese so any help with that regards would be perfect.

My first piece is this calligraphy piece, I believe Japanese but there are no seals or signatures that I can tell, I am assuming it's a poem. Any opinions or (if possible) translation (dont need the full translation just an idea of what it says as its long). I am debating taking it out of the frame thinking maybe some more details will be on it but its one of those frames which are a real pain to reframe again, so if I can avoid that, that would be perfect. Thanks!

DD

The Hiragana calligraphed text is included in one of the three Tenrikyō scriptures titled; Mikagura-uta, Section Four "Eight verses of Yorozuyo"
Tenrikyō is the name of a Japanese new religion, founded in the 19th century.

よろづよのせかい一れつみはらせど
 むねの王かりたものはない
そのはずやといてきかしたことはない
 志らぬがむりでハない王いな
古のたびは可みがお毛てへ阿らハれて
 なにかいさいをときゝかす
........ and so on
(Some alternative kanas were converted to modern
ones because the PC can't print them)

Yorozu no yo no sekai ichiretsu miharasedo
mune no wakarita mono wa nai
Sono hazu ya toite kikashita koto ha nai
shiranu ga muri de ha nai wai na
Kono tabi ha kami ga omote he arawarete
nanika isai wo tokikikasu
.....

There is no one who understands the world from the
beginning to the present day,
as there is no one who understands the thoughts
of parents.
It is supposed to be that, but it is not unreasonable,
because I have never preached about it
This time the God has appeared in this world,
to preach some particulars about the truth
..... and so on

With regards,
I.Nagy

I.Nagy,

I am impressed and very grateful for your translation of this text! It has literally left me completely baffled and here I thought it was some Japanese Buddhist calligraphy! I work a lot with Asian works of art but unfortunately I am not a native or fluent speaker/reader/writer of any Asian language (yet) outside of the basics and you seem to know quite a few! Do you offer translation as a service? I feel guilty, you providing such explanative translations without giving you back anything in return. If you have anywhere I can donate to or hire you for your service please let me know as you do provide a great service for a lot of posters here from what I have read. All the best.

D.D.
