First, it is not an incense burner, but a cricket box. The vessel used to rise crickets for fighting purpose. The pot is made of purple sand (boccaro vare).
Inscriptions,
盆乃之佳 - The only fine pot
君得藏將 - what a gentleman can store (collect)
許小忠制 - Made by Xŭ Xiăozhōng

大清咸豐三年品 - Made in the Third Year of the Xiánfēng in the Qing Dynasty (1853)

Lid (?) marking,
靑 - Qīng - Unidentifiable mark

I think it is a nice fake item.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Hi Arun,

I agree with I.Nagy, its a nice fake. They like to wash these items with this dark wash to imitate aged dirt. They like to do it to the bottom of fake imperial porcelain vases all the time as well to make you think its older than it is. They've stopped recently because people are picking up on it but I see a lot of faked yixing-style pieces that have this dark wash as well. I honestly wish they wouldnt do this, it's a fine piece without making it look old.

D.D.
