Subject:Japanese ginbari cloisonne egret vase

Wonder if anyone recoognizes the mark on this presumed Japanese Meiji-period (1868-1912) 'ginbari' (silver foil) vase with ten egrets around the sides. It's about 7.75 inches tall and remarkably enameled, with expressive looks to the birds and well modeled feathers. As often is the case with such a fragile vase, the piece has some stained surface cracking, but mostly on one side and with no apparent denting. If anyone is interested , this item came in a package deal for US$250 with another apparent Meiji 4-inch ginbari vase in better condition with decoration of a colorfully robed female figure. I think I got a deal.

Hi Bill,
I think you bagged yourself a great deal with this vase/other one.
I love the egrets depicted. Sorry I don't recognize the mark. Looks to be in great condition.

It's the enameled mark of Gonda Hirosuke I (1865-1937) who worked together with his son Gonda Hirosuke II (Jumatsu, ca. 1893-1939) in Nagoya. Wireless cloisonné (musen) with translucent enamels. Late Meiji to Taishô period.

Lovely piece.
