Posted By: Bill H Tue, Nov 17, 2020 Your plate bears a large mark of 'Made by the Leisurely Retreat' (You Xian ju zhi - 有閒居製) and a smaller one of 'Imitation Antique' (Fang gu - 仿古), The larger of which appears to date from the Republic (1912-49) to late 20th century, and possibly is associated with the United Wilson Company of Hong Kong. Here are some other links with images of ceramics with the mark and its variations. You'll note that it has been referred to by variant translations as well, but 'Leisurely Retreat' is what I'm sticking with. |

Posted By: Bill H Thu, Nov 19, 2020 The wolf is indeed having a face-off with a bird, this one being a domestic bantam rooster or cockerel. Perhaps there is a story in the scene, especially if the purplish blue flowers in the background are "wolf's bane". |
