Subject:Is this a Qilin ?????
Posted By: Peter Sat, Oct 31, 2020 IP: 178.115.130.255

I recently can across this twin handled mug, which appears at first glance to be antique.

I assumed that the mug is European, as there is a depiction of a European-looking face. However, on the other side, there is a depicted what is possibly a Qilin (?).
It may well be that the creature is just a stylised version of a deer, or perhaps some other animal.
The base is unmarked.

Ideas anyone ????

It appears to me, to be of Southern European origin.

Hi,

I guess just because of how it was painted, it's possible to see pretty much anything.

To me, it's a horse. See the mane and tail? Probably not a kirin, I can't see any horn, scales, etc.

At least that's what I see, someone else might see something, different.

Not sure if this helps.

Regards!
