Posted By: Melissa Sun, Oct 25, 2020 IP: 2601:1c2:1602:d490:c

Hello,
This is a little 4" x 6" pigment on paper artwork.

Can anyone translate the text?
Any idea of a date range?
Specific origin?

Thank you!

Text,
大津絵 弁慶 - Ǒtsu-e Benkei - Pictures from Ǒtsu - Benkei
Benkei is one of the most popular subjects for Otsu-e painting. This posture represents the "Standing Death of Benkei". Eyes are open and the mouth is tied up, his face and hand black painted, meaning the shadow of death.

Not older than 50 years.

With regards,
I.Nagy
