Subject:Taizan Vase
Posted By: Ron Decker Thu, Oct 22, 2020 IP: 108.240.247.91

We recently acquired this beautiful vase.
It has a Taizan mark.
We are hoping to find more information on it as far as Time period and Who if it wasn't Taizan Yohei himself.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

You are right, this is a Taizan 泰山 mark.
"Made in Japan" means made somewhere between 1920 and 1940. Unfortunately I have no information about this Taizan.
It is NOT a Taizan Yohei mark, whose name is written as 帯山 or 帶山, often together with "Dai Nippon" 大日本.
See examples below.
Regards,
Martin.

Not sure my previous reply went through or not so here it is again.

Thank you for your response.

Not sure if this is legit but I found an updated list of Marks online said to be an update from Sept 2020. It shows the same mark as on this piece being in the Taisho period.

What are your thoughts on this?

The marks you show can be found on the Satsuma database site /www.satsuma-database.nl by Mr. Richard Cress. Your mark is similar to the one on the top left. "Made in Japan" markings are mandatory since 1921, see attached form.
So your item might be 1921-1925 Late Taisho. Might also be late 1920's or 1930's.

During the Meiji - Taisho and early Showa periods several different potters / decorators named Taizan were active. The marks shown here are not Taizan Yohei marks, these can be seen on the page before the page shown here. Taizan Yohei's name was written 帯山 or 帶山.
Regards,
Martin.
