Subject:Asian painting/Help for translation and meaning
Posted By: antigone Thu, Oct 22, 2020 IP: 2a01:cb10:360:ef00:5

Hello,

I would like to have some help for the translation on this asian painting, and what is the meaning, it was bought near 40 years ago but not new?
We can see four foxes and I found this meaning for the fox :In Asia, the fox is cunning, full of life, symbol of fulfilment towards eternal life, and thus intimately linked to the entire sexual character of the associated vital energy.
Seductive, intelligent, clever, magical, he is neither heavenly nor earthly, for he acquires the heavenly character by working, or can become an underground being.
It represents a totemic intermediary, illustrative of the will to acquire for oneself, with the shortcomings that this implies

and the painting is like a meeting around a table and someone dancing with a traditional cloth?

I think it is chinese but not sure,

Can you help me? I can provide better pictures if necessary,

Thank you in avance,

Sincerely,

antigone

Title,
狐狸縁 - The fate of fox
(It refers to the title of the Qing dynasty classic about the identity of an incredibly beautiful girl)

Inscription in my rough translation,
狐狸成了精毎日変
人行化挐同歓樂
四姐看酒瓶盤古時
先刻板反板者自誓
The foxes are capable to acquire human form even in every day,
They are making fun of catching people from the street,
The four sisters looking at the wine bottle, as it has been in practice ever since *Pangu,
Both sides know these tricks very well

*Pangu; Creator of universe in Chinese mythology.

With regards,
I.Nagy
