Posted By: Rodolphe Tue, Sep 22, 2020 IP: 109.88.102.137

Hello,

Could you tell me what this Japanese signature means.
What region does she come from and if possible the time.

Thank you

The mark reads: Dai 大 Nippon 日本 Imura 井村 Sei 製 (Great Japan made by Imura).

Yokohama broker Imura Hikotaru (Hikojiro) started the Imura Toki Kaisha (Imura Pottery Company) in Yokohama in 1876 making Kutani ware and began exporting finely decorated sharkskin-textured ceramics toward the end of the Meiji Era. Imura Toki Kaisha closed in 1912.

The sign on top of the signature is a kind of logo often seen on Imura marks.

Your vase dates from around 1900.

Regards,
Martin.
