Subject:Japanese vase ?
Posted By: Rodolphe Tue, Sep 22, 2020 IP: 109.88.102.137

Hello,
Could you tell me if it is a Japanese vase?

Does this signature mean anything to you, is there any way to date it.

Kind regards

According to Gotheborg the mark in Japanese means Ei, in Chinese: "Yong" (Eternity). Your vase is Japanese.

This mark is from the Eisei-sha 永世舎 pottery.

Eisei-sha was established in 1877 in Himeji (Himezi) in the Hyōgo Prefecture by Tatsumasa Matsumura (1838-1915), born in Hizen, Arita, Saga Prefecture.

Eisei-sha is a pottery located in former Okurae-cho, Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture. It was active for about 6 years in the Meiji Period from 1877 till 1883. The director was Shibata Zenpei (also named Shibata Yoshihira), a potter of the Oyama kiln. Eisei-sha made mainly appreciated trade items.

The logo is the character 永 (= Ei) in a diamond (rhombus).

See also the mark include in this post.

Regards,
Martin.
