Subject:Chinese writing on ivory?

I hope this curio counts as an artefact or piece of art. It's quite a large piece of what might be ivory or bone and is dated in English 1900, and also has the name of a ship HMS Algerine (1895) and some other names.
I am hoping the translation of the Chinese might help to explain its significance.
