Subject:Jade Dragon / Lion added pictures

Thank you very much for the replies -
Another set of pictures; i hope they are better; by the way, im collecting stonecarvings for quite a while - inspected lots of serpentine carvings - this would be a very special sort of serpentine; no whitish carving traces in the deep cut lines and a glassy sound if ( gently ) clashed.
Maybe its a modern carving; but the material seems to be good to me.
But any opinions are most appreciated.

we need better close up shots.
Question. . can you see any small black spots in the stone, or white spots. . . Close up of a groove is also needed.

Black spots and generally a "woven" or cloudy structure inside the stone; i hope you can see.
No bubbles or the like.

The carving somehow reminds me of what Canadian Jade carvers produced. Smaller black spots can indicate that it is BC Nephrite,(or Taiwanese Jade) larger black inclusions points to Russian Nephrite . My knowledge goes about 60years back. .Can you find any marking on this Carving?
In order to be assured that it is Jade, make the simple scratch test: with a strong needle, using enough pressure, make a 3-4 mm scratch. Then tell us if that tiny scratch is white or black.

Hello;
did the scratch test to the beginning; ( needle test and "cutting" an knife blade with the piece itself ).
Needle leaves only easy removable metal residue; the piece itself cuts the knifeblade easily.
( Density about 3; inner structure matches that of Jade. )
The canadian pieces are way inferiour in carving quality in my eyes - ( got one early canadian buddha here with 1kg good Jade wasted to a clump of infernal desaster... )
Taiwanese is a very good hint -
an owner of a similar piece on the net claimed he bought his dragon in taiwan - seller stated it was made around 1940.
Hard to tell - theres a guangxu seal in one of the major houses wich shows a very similar decorativ work. ( not really better than this little dragon )
Kind regards,
Edmund

So, that Jade originated most likely in Turkistan. some BC Jades and Taiwan Jades are difficult to tell apart. The crème de la crème in Canada is the Polar Jade. It is extremely rare, as only a small amount was found.
PS where are you located?

Hello;
i´m located in Germany - "Ruhrgebiet".
Germany is a dead place in terms of asian art experts so i had to find out this and that for myself. ( not as much as i want to know )
Some pictures of the " carved to death " Buddha-Jade. ( face and expression is errrm.. okay - details of the hair / hands / gown are not appropriate to this fine Stone ( nor to buddha himself )
White residue in the grooves is modern polishing paste.
Kind regards Edmund

( sorry my mobile-phone cant do it better )

I missed something. . that is why I prefer hands-on checking.
I just noticed the inclusions, and withdraw my Turkistan remark. Most likely the Jade originated in BC Canada or Taiwan. Carved in China or Taiwan.

The dark green, polished material pushes my 4 year old handy to the technical limits...note to myself...should invest in better equipment.
Hope you can see the inner structure of the stone and the carvings a bit better now.
Kind regards,
Edmund.
