Subject:Chinese painting, help required
Posted By: John Lord Mon, Aug 24, 2020 IP: 2001:8003:5103:1300:

Can anyone identify this artist? Ink and colour on silk, 50cm diameter. One of a pair.
The artist was given as Zhang Jian-jun (1979 - ), but signature is not right. Any help appreciated.

Yours,
John Lord

I. Nagy,
Many thanks once again. I had come across a number of artists with the same, or similar, name but not this one. Have since found biographies, etc.

With regards
John Lord

FYI https://j.17qq.com/article/gfwsmhfqy_p2.html

Signature seems fine to me relative to his other works, but the image on this website suggests that you may have a printed reproduction, or the original.

Dear rat,

Thank you for your email. I am a bit puzzled by the ending, "you may have a printed reproduction, or the original."
Is "or" a typo for "of" - as in "of the original" or rather that it is either a reproduction or the original?
The photo on this site does look a bit "flat". I have better quality photos but they exceed the maximum size for this site.

Yours
John Lord

Not a typo: your picture seems an exact match to the one shown (in poor resolution) on the website, so my inference is that you either purchased the original, which the photo on the website reproduces, or that you have purchased a reproduction of the original. Am guessing that the latter is the correct.

Dear rat,

My apologies - I misunderstood your email. My painting is the one illustrated on the website. It was sold at auction by Mossgreen in 2016. However, Mossgreen gave the artist as Zhang Jianjun, but with the birth date of another artist of the same name. Hence my confusion.
