Can anyone identify the signature shown of the attached these photos? It does not appear to be a Seiya signature.

Signed 'Gyôkô saku' (暁光作 - made by Gyôkô).

The maker is probably Akasofu Gyôkô (赤祖父暁光), who's workshop was based in Tokyo. Date of this piece ca. 1890-1900.

Guy.

Thanks, Guy. Is this piece more valuable or less valuable than a piece make by Seiya?

Akasofu Gyōkō 赤祖父暁光 (Dates unknown)
Lived in Tōkyō. Produced metalwork for export. His given name was Sotojiro. Was member of Tokyo Cast Metalworkers' Association n the second half of the Meiji period.

Thank you for your quick response. I have another question. Is this signature more common or less common than Seiya? In other words, is this piece more or less valuable than a piece made by Seiya?

Dear Guy,
The markingon your tiger is Gyōkō-saku. The Akasofu surname is
not used on his works.
Akasofu was his surname. According to net sources nowadays about 270 persons share this surname in Japan, all having their roots in Akasobu village in Toyama prefecture.

With regards,
I.Nagy
