Posted By: Chris J. Mon, Jun 01, 2020 IP: 89.67.124.70

I need help by identification of this coin or charm. Diameter pf this item is ca. 40 mm. I could not find similar coins in catalogs of Chinese and Vietnamese coins

Your coin purports to be a 'Jin Dynasty Currency of the Realm' (Jin Guo Tong Bao - 金國通寶). The Jin or Tatar Dynasty ruled from 1115-1234, but I found one claimed expert commentary online, which indicated that the calligraphic form in which the writing was struck onto a coin similar to yours was an updated script associated with the "Wei Dynasty" (ruled 386-554 in Northern & Western Kingdoms), which newer style had not come into widespread use until the 1940's or later. Thus the coin like yours was deemed to be a recent fake.

I'm not an expert in the field of numismatics, but include a link herewith to the Chinese-language commentary.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Thank you for your response. I have som knowledge about patina on bronzes. If I look on patina on this coin I thin that its not faked patina. It must be as minimum 150-200 years old. The coin was imported from Korea in 1951. I don't think that at this time were made fake coins. Therefore is conclusion was that it is not modern fake. I looked on your link and the coins has practically no patina and look like fakes.
