Posted By: Mazeau Fri, May 29, 2020 IP: 93.2.45.139

Hello,

I'd like to know the artist who has painted that landscape on a fan. To my eyes it is Chinese.

Thank you for your kind help.
Mazeau

仿一峰老人筆 - Painting imitating *Yifeng-laoren
肇吉大兄啓 - For elder brother Zhaoji
褱勳 - (By) Huaixun (Huai Xun)
Upper seal,
褱 - Huai
Lower seal,
瓢 - Piao (probably pseudonym)

For the time being I can't find artist with name
Huaixun or Huai Xun

*Yifeng-laoren was the pseudonym of the famous Yuan dynasty painter Huang Gongwang (黄公望)

With regards,
I.Nagy

Dear Mazeau,
Meantime, I have found Li Huaixun
His name is printed in the largest Chinese painters' name dictionary as 李懐勲. Practically, instead of the character 褱 its more common form 懐 is used.
Here is the translation of his short biography;
Qing Dynasty (No date of birth and death)
Courtesy name: Tangren Studied in Kunming Clear self-style with integrity Good at landscapes and
imitating Song and Yuan painters Used strong brushstrokes of old masters Established himself as a painter in academic issues

Ref. 中国美術家人名辞典 (Name Dictionary of Chinese Artists, Shanghai, 1985, p.410

With regards,
I.Nagy

Dear I.Nagy,

Thank you for additional informations about Li Huaixun. 2 of his works seems to be dated 1846 so a late Qing artist.

Regards,
MAZEAU
