Subject:Unsure
Posted By: Michelle Barone Thu, May 21, 2020 IP: 2601:19a:4380:b70:d0 Hi all, I’m just starting to appreciate and admire some of the Asian art and came across this at an estate sale. Does anyone recognize what this is? Is it authentic Karansha? Is it antique? |

Posted By: Bill H Fri, May 22, 2020 The vase indeed does have the mark and appearance of authentic Koransha ware in the palette that many call "Chocolate Imari", made around the last quarter of the 19th century. Here are a couple of other such Koransha wares that have come into my collection, first a previously lamped jar, which is hard to beat for sheer glamour, unless its by the second item, an imposing tea infuser or coffee urn with the chocolate color a prominent ground amidst the swirling brocades, as well as the birds and dragons painted therein. |
