Subject:Tongzhi? tortoiseshell snuff bottle inscription
Posted By: Sally Mon, May 11, 2020 IP: 90.255.53.87

Hi again , this snuff bottle has a 4 figure mark to the base and is inscribed on 4 of the 8 panels. The gilding is so worn that it's really difficult to get a clear photo of the inscription so I have attempted to copy it, I hope it's readable , I'd love to know what it says. Thank you

Bottom,
同治六年 - 6th Year of Tongzhi (1867)
On the sides,
乾清坤寧 - Heaven and earth, male and female
吉享交泰 - are auspiciously and peacefully interlaced
天地感應 - Heaven and earth are in commotion with each other
日昇月和 - as the sun rises and the moon falls

With regards,
I.Nagy

Thank you so much I.Nagy, that is a beautiful poem. I am quite amazed and delighted that something so lovely is written on this everyday object. It' s also fascinating to have such an exact date for it.
Thanks again and great respect for your skills. I'm glad you could read my writing.
