The mark on your modern-looking Chinese-style crackle-glaze vase reads 'Made by Tao Zhudong' in Chinese mandarin, though it could have been made somewhere besides China. The only response to a Google query regarding the characters was sourced to a Chinese internet forum on 21 November 2010, regarding a 14-cm diameter bowl with the same mark. The most relevant comment submitted wondered if the bowl might not be Japanese, which had occurred to me as well, since the mark wasn't centered on the base but stamped near the rim. However, in the absence of any responses to the query from Japanese internet sources, I'll leave open the possibility it might have been made in Korea, where kiln marks often are found near the rim (and I lack the expertise to do a search in Korean).

Best regards,

Bill H.
