Subject:Japanese drawing
Posted By: Francesco Adamo Tue, May 05, 2020 IP: 51.179.101.8

Hi everyone, I am writing to show you a canvas in my possession.

It is a work by Sekisai Kuniyasu, an artist active at the end of the 19th century and an important exponent of the Utagawa School.

Unfortunately I don't know Japanese, so I kindly ask some experts to translate the inscriptions.

Also, if possible, I'd like to know the meaning of the stamps.

Many thanks in advance

Inscriptions,
萬代の春こそいふ - Yorozu no haru koso iu
水のふかみどり - mizu no fuka-midori
遊ぶ子龜らも - asobu kogame-ra mo
そぞろゆく追前 - sozoro yuku sakiotte
安守 - Yasumori
It is the very spring of the timeless existence
with the deep green color of waters
The playing little turtles go one after the another
Yasumori

癸未夏日冩 - Painted on a Summer Day of the Year of Water-Sheep (1883)
石斎 - Sekisai - Signature
長澂 - Chōchō (Nagasumi) - Upper seal - Could be the artist's original given name or courtesy name
宇碧天 - U-hekiten (At Blue Sky) - Lower, leisure seal

On the other hand I think the painter of this picture was an another Sekisai, although, I couldn't identify this one. I managed to identify four Sekisai-s, including Kuniyasu, but all turned out to be different.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Dear Mr. Nagy,
Thank you very much for your kind reply.
I am very happy, finally, to know the translation and learn the beautiful words that accompany the drawing.
My most cordial greetings to you.
Francesco Adamo
